Situated in a coastal city in southern Queensland, this city is widely known as a site for observing humpback whales. Whale-watching boats operate during the July-November migration season. It's also a hub for tours to nearby Fraser Island, which features beaches and a rain forest habitat for dingoes and other wildlife. A waterfront esplanade links the city's marina with beaches offering calm waters for swimming.
This is the oldest established practice in the area, with an unbroken lineage going back 50 years. One owner has been in the practice since 1978, and the other since 1981.
There are three rooms set up as consulting rooms, the third largely occupied by the practice nurse, where she will do CDM assessments, pap smears, ECGs and RFTs , and this is also the resuscitation room for emergency management . In the past it has been used as the consulting room for a third doctor/GP registrar etc.
There are two treatment/ minor ops rooms, heavily used for minor surgery up to the level of vasectomy, lots of skin surgery and lots of dressings. Plus a storage room, computer area and a good size staff room.
There is covered parking on-site for the two doctors and uncovered parking potential for 2 more vehicles. There is a wide door ambulance access to the side of the building, accessed by an easement. There is a long established pharmacy next door, and an abundance of cafes and eateries and tourist businesses in close proximity, along with a number of back-packer establishments close by, which provide a constant flow of patients.
Two registered nurses, one full time working 34 hours over 4 days a week, and one part time nurse working one day a week plus relief for vacation, sick leave for the other nurse and for all of the other front desk staff. Both nurses are able to fulfil the front desk role. One is a registered pap smear provider and the other, apart from all the usual health assessments, is a qualified continence adviser and provides continence assessments and assistance for our own patients and for other practices, upon referral.
Software used is Medical Director, since 1998, and front desk software is via a program called The Practice which integrates with MD for appointment book, billing etc. The Practice has been accredited since 1999 is due for re-accreditation May 2017 and has always been highly rated in the accreditation assessments.
